Contribution to European Shoah Legacy Institute report
The European Shoah Legacy Institute has published a study on regulations governing restitution of Jewish property in Europe. Lawyers from Wardyński & Partners were involved in drafting the report.
The report entitled Restitution of Immovable Property is the most comprehensive study to date of the status of restitution of property following the Holocaust. The report discusses all significant legislation enacted since 1945 by 47 countries who are signatories to the Terezin Declaration on Holocaust-era assets, as well as the status of consideration and satisfaction of claims in specific jurisdictions. The entire project was headed by Prof. Michael Bazyler from the Fowler School of Law at Chapman University in California, a Holocaust researcher and specialist in human rights law.
Krzysztof Wiktor and Radosław Wiśniewski from the real estate, reprivatisation and private client practices at Wardyński & Partners participated in drafting the section on Poland.
The report was presented at the international conference “Unfinished Justice: Restitution and Remembrance,” held at the European Parliament on 26 April 2017. Radosław Wiśniewski, one of the co-authors of the report, represented the Wardyński firm at the conference.
The entire report, divided into sections on each country, is available at http://shoahlegacy.org/restitution-of-immovable-property/.
